Club History

Since its formation in 1910 when land had been surveyed in close proximity of the Bacup Bowling Club, members called a meeting to request an outline scheme to form a golf club to the Town Clerk.  The first links opened at Cowtoot Farm, Bacup and on May 28th, the first committee was elected; they hoped to be playing golf in six weeks.  Eventually on 02 July 1910, the Mayor of Bacup, Alderman John Henry Maden, J.P., C.C., also President of the club officially opened the course by driving off in a friendly match with Mr. Joseph Entwistle, the first Captain of Bacup Golf Club.

In 1916, the club moved from Cowtoot links to the present links at Bankside Lane.

In May 1923, New Barn Farm was constructed to serve as a clubhouse costing £600 to £700.  For almost 16years, the club excelled until the early hours of the morning of January 19th, 1939 when fire reduced it to a charred shell.  The Steward and Stewardess with their 10year old son had an exciting escape.

Only after fifteen months following the fire, the present clubhouse was officially opened by Alderman George Baron.  Mr. J. H. Brearley, a founder member of the club, and his son Mr. James Brearley carried out the construction of the building.

On Thursday, 18 July 1946, at an auction held in the Market Hotel, the present property was purchased for £1,850.
